The Chattanooga area's attractions coordinate well with a wide variety of classroom curriculums. The ever popular Tennessee Aquarium offers a look at the salt water world in the impressive Ocean Journey which also contains touch tanks and a butterfly garden. The Aquarium's River Journey offers an innovative approach to the study of freshwater conservation while showcasing marine biology through special exhibits and educational programs (all visits always include both buildings.) A tour of Ruby Falls (guided) or Rock City (self-guided) will impress students with the natural beauty of its rock formations and falls. At Raccoon Mountain Caverns, students will have a guided tour of a fascinating "young cave," a work in process. The Creative Discovery Museum, with its exhibits on paleontology, music, inventions and traveling exhibits, has proven to be an especially popular attraction for 2nd to 6th graders. The IMAX Theater features subjects relating to nature and conservation with selected films presented employing amazing 3-D technology. Lookout Mountain Historic Site and Chickamauga National Battlefield each offer students a detailed study of America's bloodiest war. Also available is a lunch cruise on the Chattanooga Riverboat.
This field trip provides students with an opportunity to tour The Lost Sea, one of the world's largest underground lakes. The guided tour also includes a study of the caverns and formations found therein. In Oak Ridge, students will tour the "hands-on" American Museum of Science and Energy. Exhibits include the history of the closely guarded Manhattan Project. A special demonstration will also be arranged.
