Zoo Atlanta will come alive under Kathy Freund’s expert guidance. Your students will be visited in their classroom prior to the field trip to prepare for the wide variety of exhibits at the Zoo. During your Zoo visit, Kathy will lead a spirited trip around the animal world and will gladly cater to any specific curriculum or focus.
Lamar Q. Ball Raptor Center at Georgia Southern University Under the knowledgeable direction of the staff at the Raptor Center students will be led in a variety of activities. A “Flighted Raptor” program will demonstrate the abilities of these remarkable birds and their handlers in a natural setting. A guided tour through the exhibits will allow students a firsthand look at the variety of birds of prey. Also, a handler will conduct a classroom program where students will get an “up-close” look at both indigenous and exotic reptiles.
Smithgall Woods Conservation Area, Unicoi State Park Under the leadership of the staff naturalists at both parks, students will be guided through a variety of activities which teach the importance of conservation, the science of protecting scarce resources, explain the varied history of native Americans which have inhabited the area and demonstrate the variety of wildlife indigenous to North Georgia.
This educational and informative field trip takes students to the Watson Mill Bridge State Park, site of the Watson Mill Bridge constructed in 1895. This bridge is the finest example of the few active covered bridges remaining in the South. A State Park ranger will guide students on a tour of the park including the old mill and power plant and a discussion on the history and significance of the covered bridge and how it was constructed. A picnic lunch will be provided at the park.
